How to Sew Stuffed Animal Clothes

There is no toy more synonymous with childhood than the stuffed animal. Your grandparent's grandparents played with similar teddy bears that your children play with today. With that said, do you think it is time to accessorize your child's stuffed animals with some new clothing. Sewing up stuffed animal clothes is a fun activity where your children can participate. Read on and learn how to sew your own stuffed animal clothes.

  1. First: Choose a fabric

Your first step is to choose a fabric that is adequate for the stuffed animal you are using. Kids love soft stuffed animals so choosing a soft fabric, such as wool, cotton or felt, for the stuffed animal's clothes is a great place to start.

  2. Second: Decide what type of clothing

After the fabric is chosen, your next step is to decide what item of clothing you want to make and cut the fabric accordingly. You can make it as simple as a cape or as complicated as a three piece suit, the decision is totally up to you and your child. Just remember to make sure the fabric is big enough to wrap around the animal for items that require it, such as pants and dresses.

  3. Third: Sew

Sew your fabric into the desired clothing items and make sure they fit the appropriate stuffed animal.

  4. Fourth: Accessorize the clothing

Now that the base of your clothing is done, you should add some colorful patches or designs to make the clothing stand out. Ideas include, fake fur, heart patches or ribbons, basically whatever you think makes the clothes look good.
